Walter George was killed in action during the Great War (First World War) whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment as a Lance Corporal.
On 4th August 1915 the War Office issued a Certificate of Death – the certificate of death had a mistake in that it stated Walter Gray’s rank as ‘Private’ when in fact he was a Lance Corporal. A subsequent Effects Form 45 from the War Office, dated 14 October 1915, stated his correct rank.
