War Office Effects Form 45

Following Walter Gray’s death during the Great War, on 8th May 2015, the War Office, London, sent an Effects Form 45 to this widow, Florence Eva Wyeth Gray (nee Pullinger).

The war effects form 45 stated the following:

Madam
I am directed to inform you that the Command Paymaster, Eastern Command, 91, York Street, Westminster, London, S.W., has been authorised to issue to you, two pounds, twelve shillings and ten pence being the sum that appears to be due on the settlement of the accounts of the late No. 6055 Lance Corporal Walter Gray, 2nd Battalion Suffolk Regiment.

Should no communication on this subject be received from the Paymaster within 14 days, application for payment should be made to him by letter.

Of the above amount two-thirds is the property of the deceased soldier’s daughter Margaret and must be used for her exclusive benefit.
